Jordan Ayew came off the bench to salvage a point for Leicester City with a stoppage-time equalizer, denying Ipswich Town their first Premier League win since returning to the top flight.
Ayew’s 94th-minute strike capped off a dramatic turn of events at Portman Road, where Leicester managed to draw 1-1 after Ipswich’s Leif Davis had given the hosts the lead with a stunning volley early in the second half.
Leicester struggled to break down Ipswich’s defense until the momentum shifted when Ipswich’s Kalvin Phillips saw red in the 77th minute for a second bookable offense.
The City midfielder, on loan from Manchester City, was previously lucky to escape a straight red for a first-half incident that saw him elbow Facundo Buonanotte. Despite a VAR review, he was only issued a yellow card.
However, Phillips’ dismissal changed the dynamics, with Ipswich’s control slipping and Leicester taking full advantage.
Ayew, introduced in the 88th minute, made an immediate impact, linking up with Jamie Vardy to carve through Ipswich’s defense before calmly slotting the equalizer past Ipswich’s keeper. The goal was his third since joining Leicester from Crystal Palace.
The draw leaves Ipswich in 18th place, still seeking their first top-flight victory since April 2002. Meanwhile, Leicester remains in 15th as manager Steve Cooper observed the match from the stands, serving a touchline ban.
