Bournemouth forward Antoine Semenyo delivered a remarkable performance as the Cherries stunned Manchester City with a 2-1 victory, ending City’s 32-game unbeaten streak in the Premier League.
Semenyo’s early goal set the tone for an impressive Bournemouth display that saw the defending champions struggle to cope with relentless attacks.
Semenyo was central to Bournemouth’s success, scoring just nine minutes into the game. Milos Kerkez set up the goal, surging past City’s Phil Foden on the left and cutting the ball back for Semenyo, who initially fumbled but quickly regained control to turn past Josko Gvardiol and fire a low shot beyond Ederson.
From the opening moments, Semenyo and his attacking partner Justin Kluivert posed a serious threat, forcing City’s goalkeeper Ederson into a double save within the first two minutes.
Bournemouth’s intense, high-paced play left City chasing shadows, with Semenyo’s strength, speed, and creativity evident throughout the first half. The second half saw Bournemouth continue their charge, with Ederson managing a save from Evanilson’s attempt. Yet, moments later, Evanilson doubled Bournemouth’s lead, converting another well-timed assist from Kerkez, leaving City scrambling for answers. The defending champions were only able to claw one goal back through Gvardiol, who headed in from an Ilkay Gundogan cross to create a tense finish.
Despite City’s late rally, including a near-equalizer from Erling Haaland in stoppage time, Bournemouth held on. Semenyo’s presence on the pitch was undeniable, his pace and direct play repeatedly troubling City’s defense, particularly Nathan Ake, who struggled to contain the Bournemouth forward.
Semenyo’s performance, crowned by his fourth goal of the season, exemplifies his growth as a forward and his role as a key player for manager Andoni Iraola.
“Semenyo was everywhere,” remarked pundits, as the young forward’s energy and work rate helped propel Bournemouth to eighth in the league, while City’s defeat saw them drop to second behind Liverpool.
The victory marks Bournemouth’s first-ever Premier League win over City and underlines Semenyo’s value as a dynamic attacking force capable of dismantling even the best defenses in the league.
