The church should be bold to come out and take directions on who should lead this country, New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer aspirant Ken Ohene Agyapong has said.
Speaking at the inauguration of the Eternal Life Church in Accra on Sunday, Mr Agyapong urged the Church to play a more assertive role in shaping Ghana’s political and moral direction.
He stated that the Church’s credibility and influence among the citizenry made it a vital partner in the country’s search for effective leadership and national transformation.
“The situation we are in now requires that the Church should be bold to come out and take directions on who should be the leader of this country,” he stated.
“We politicians have lied to the citizens of this country so many times that they have lost trust in us. But when men of God speak to them, they believe. That is why the Church must do more to help this country.”
The businessman emphasised that collaboration between faith-based institutions and political leaders is crucial for driving Ghana’s socio-economic development. He emphasised that politicians and the Church must work together to rebuild public trust, promote integrity, and create opportunities for the youth.
“The politicians and the Church should collaborate as partners for the development of this country,” he said. “I encourage the Church to work with politicians to help build this country through industrialisation.”
Mr Agyapong also called on religious organisations to invest in job creation as part of their social mission. “The Church should invest part of its monies in creating jobs for its members,” he added, noting that sustainable national development required a shared sense of responsibility among all sectors.
He commended the leadership of the Eternal Life Church for its vision and commitment to empowering its members both spiritually and economically, describing the new church as a model of purpose-driven ministry.
Reflecting on his visit, Mr Agyapong said the event was an opportunity to highlight the importance of faith in nation-building. He cautioned, however, that in an era of social media distortions, his comments should not be taken out of context.
“When men of God speak, people listen. That is why I believe politicians and the Church must work hand in hand to achieve lasting progress for this country,” he said.
Mr Agyapong, who is seeking to lead the NPP into the 2028 general elections, has been touring the country, engaging party delegates and grassroots supporters on his vision of leadership anchored on honesty, hard work and industrial growth.
