The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the National Union of Tricycle Operators of Ghana, Seidu Mubarak, has stated that the association will soon introduce identification stickers and establish a task force to address indiscipline among some operators on the roads.
He said the move forms part of efforts to improve discipline, strengthen accountability, and enhance road safety compliance within the tricycle transport sector.
Speaking to Citi News on Monday, April 13, Mr Mubarak acknowledged that indiscipline among some operators remains a challenge, adding that stronger regulatory oversight is needed at the point of licensing.
He called on the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) to tighten scrutiny during the issuance of licences and ensure that only qualified applicants are permitted to operate.
Mr Mubarak also urged regular training and capacity-building programmes for operators to improve their understanding of road traffic regulations and promote responsible behaviour on the roads.
As part of the association’s internal reforms, he disclosed that a dedicated task force will be set up to monitor the conduct of members and help enforce compliance with safety rules.
He further explained that in the coming days, all operators will be issued sticker identification and reflector materials to make it easier to identify tricycles and track offenders who violate traffic regulations.
According to him, the initiative is aimed at reducing misconduct and supporting law enforcement agencies in maintaining order within the sector.
“In due time, we will be issuing stickers to identify our members on the road. So, in case a rider flouts the laws, and the sticker is on the tricycle, if you report the person to us, we will take the person through the laws of our land. We will not allow that person to destroy our business image or tarnish our image,” he said
