The Minister for the Interior, Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak, acting on the advice of the National Security Council, has imposed a curfew on Karaga Township and its environs in the Karaga District of the Northern Region
The curfew, enacted through an Executive Instrument, takes effect from Wednesday, April 15, 2026, between 6:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. daily.
In a statement issued on April 15, the government urged chiefs, elders, opinion leaders, youth, and residents of the area to exercise restraint and use non-violent means to address the challenges confronting the community, emphasising the need to maintain peace.
As part of the security measures, the government has banned all persons in Karaga Township and its environs from carrying arms, ammunition, or any offensive weapons. Individuals found in possession of such items will be arrested and prosecuted.
Meanwhile, the Ghana Police Service has announced the deployment of a special reinforcement team and armoured vehicles to the area
According to the Police, the deployed team comprises operational officers who will work in collaboration with personnel from the Northern Regional Police Command to intensify patrols and enhance security presence.
