The National Association of Institutional Suppliers (NAIS) has announced plans to picket at the Ministry of Education from November 20 to 21, demanding a clear plan for settling all unpaid contracts.

In a statement delivered to the Regional Commander of the Ghana Police Service in Accra on November 12, 2024, NAIS expressed its frustration over outstanding payments for contracts related to the supply of school uniforms and house dresses.

The association emphasized its commitment to supporting the education sector, noting that its members have diligently produced and delivered uniforms nationwide.

Despite fulfilling these obligations, NAIS reported that members have yet to receive payments for arrears from 2022–2023 and complete payments for the 2023–2024 school years.

Attempts to resolve these outstanding payments have reportedly yielded little response from the Ministry.

NAIS also raised concerns about potential plans by the Ministry to exclude its members from future contracts for school uniforms and house dresses.

The association warned that such a move would be detrimental, not only affecting the livelihoods of many workers in the local garment industry but also potentially impacting the timely delivery and quality of school uniforms.

NAIS argued that the exclusion would undermine the promotion of local content—a commitment the government has advocated for—and hinder local employment, skill development, and the growth of Ghana’s textile and fashion industries.
