The Western Region office of Ghana Water Limited (GWL) has rewarded two of its commercial and domestic customers for their loyalty and prompt payment of their monthly bills to the last pesewa.
The commercial customer, the Takoradi Mall and domestic customer, Agnes Mensah, a resident of Ntakorful in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis, both received GWL customised wall clocks, mugs and boxes of tissue papers.
Speaking to the media after presenting the items to the customers, the acting Regional Chief Manager of the Western Region office of the company, Nana Yaw Barima Barnie, said the gesture formed part of the company’s policies to celebrate and reward deserving and loyal customers every October, which they celebrate as Customer Service Month.
He said, “It has been our policy that every October will be celebrated as a customer service month, so this year, we looked through our records and found out that these two customers pay their monthly bills regularly and in full without leaving any arrears.
“So we realised that we needed to honour and show them our love and appreciation, and let the whole world know that these are loyal customers who need great commendation.”
The Ag. chief regional chief manager encouraged other institutions and individuals to emulate the good examples of these two customers and promptly pay their monthly water bills to help boost the operations of the company.
Nana Barnie stated that the GWL was no longer a subvented organisation and that they depended on water bill payments to run their daily activities. However, non-payment of bills was a big challenge to their work.
He explained that the over 45,000 customers of the company in the region had accumulated arrears to the tune of GH¢23,000.
“We are pleading with our customers to pay their water bills to help us run our day-to-day activities, else a time will come when the GWL will find it difficult to buy chemicals to treat water, buy fuel and other operational items due to non-payment of water bills,” he said.
Receiving the items on behalf of management, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Takoradi Mall, Theophilus Quartey, thanked the GWL for the recognition and said the kind gesture would encourage them to do more.
He said, “We appreciate the gesture and we think it is a good thing worth emulating. It will encourage us to pay more to ensure that the company continues to deliver on its mandate.”
He said, "This will even challenge us to pay the bills in advance before the bills are delivered."
Mrs Mensah also expressed delight for being recognised by the GWL as one of their best customers in the region.
She said the items received would motivate her to regularly pay her water bills and encouraged other members of her community to do the same. — GNA
