The veteran journalist, Cameron Duodo, has called for a concerted effort to end galamsey which, he says, is a threat to the very existence of Ghana and its people. Mr Duodo made the call at a Flag-raising ceremony to mark World Press Freedom Day at the Ghana International Press Centre.
He said that people are polluting and killing our rivers deliberately, in search of gold and advocated a protest march everyday to the offices of those in charge of preserving our water bodies.
He lamented ‘what is Press Freedom without water to drink, wash or cook? Mr Duodo said that the problem must not be left to any government or task force and urged everyone to visit a galamsey site to see for himself/herself what people are doing to our dear country.
He asked that journalists be supported with accurate information without which our political freedom is meaningless.
