The Pax Romana Choir of the St Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church of the University of Ghana, Legon, held the 2019 edition of their annual musical event, “Gaudete” on the 26th August, 2019 at the church’s premises at the University of Ghana, Legon.
This year’s event was in honour of great names in Ghana’s music history such as J.H. Nketia, Acquah Harrison, Ephraim Amu, Nicholas Zinzendorf Nayo, Pappoe Thompson, etc. The choir treated the audience to melodious, soul inspiring music brewed in the Ghanaian pot.
The outgoing Pax Romana Choir President, Mr Emmanuel Eshun, noted that this year’s “Gaudete”, the latin word for “Rejoice”, was to honour and appreciate the rich Ghanaian music and culture and the great luminaries in Ghanaian music.
He lauded Ghana’s forefathers for their courage, honesty, uprightness and prayed that the current generation would take a cue from the virtues exhibited by these great men and women in our history.
Mr Eshun said that he hoped to see a Ghana where everyone would be everyone’s neighbour, where a neighbour could discipline another’s child because that child was going astray. He said that he hoped to see a Ghana devoid of corruption and where everyone was leaving at peace with everyone.
This year’s Gaudete was laced with drama by the Vessels of Worship Drama troupe of the parish. The sketches performed saught to bring out the essence of upholding high morals in society and loving one another as brothers and sisters.
Mrs Kokui Selormey Hanson launched an appeal for funds aimed at securing new musical instruments for the choir.
The MP for the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency of the Greater Accra region, Madam Lydia Seyram Alhassan was the Guest of Honour for the occasion. The event was chaired by Mrs Elizabeth Asenso Okyere, a Management Consultant and a patron of the Pax Romana Choir.
