The MTN Foundation, a Telecommunication Company has handed over an ultra-modern community library to Denkyira Buabeng in the Upper Denkyira East Municipal Assembly (UDMA) for effective reading, researching, and learning among students.
The move formed part of the Company’s step towards the realization of SDG4, which seeks to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education.
Also, to promote lifelong learning opportunities for all students regardless of their background.
Mr Kofi Asare, the Acting Corporate Services Officer at MTN at the handing ceremony, said since 2007, MTN Foundation had played an instrumental role in driving socio- economic development through various corporate social investment initiatives and sustainable social interventions across the country.
The drive was underpinned by three focus areas, Education, Health, and Economic Empowerment and had impacted three million Ghanaians directly and indirectly.
He explained that they found it a great opportunity when the community reached out to them to build a library for easy accessibility of quality education at the community levels.
Mr Asare said MTN noticed that the unavailability of the library, learning materials and resources within the rural communities affected the performance of students over the years hence the need for the library.
The availability of the library would enhance teaching, learning and inculcate in the students the habits of reading.
For sustainability of the project, Mr Asare said MTN had partnered with the Ghana Library Authority (GLA) to take charge of the facility and provide full support to make the vision a realization.
MTN Foundation has invested in more than 87 educational projects and is now seeking to provide robotic centers for various schools.
He urged stakeholders to continue to support the delivery of quality education in the communities and beyond to promote national development.
Mr Asare mentioned the Foundation’s commitment to create shared value for all and improve quality of lives of the people through sustainable corporate social responsibility interventions in MTN catchment communities.
Mr Ebenezer Appiah Forson, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for UDEMA expressed gratitude to MTN for the kind gesture.
He promised to ensure the intended purpose of the library was achieved for the promotion of quality education among the citizenry in the area.
