The Institute of Coastal Climate Change Environmental Protection, Ghana (ICCCEP- GHANA) has made a passionate call for a swift effort on the transition to clean energy in observance of International Clean Energy Day.
The Institute stated the critical importance of clean energy in mitigating climate change, ensuring universal energy access, and fostering sustainable development.
In a statement, signed by Mr Emmanuel Gameli Dovia, Executive Director, ICCCEP-GHANA and made available to the Ghana News Agency, they acknowledged the progress made in Ghana's clean energy sector and called for the urgent need to address the remaining challenges.
The organisation applauded the new Ghana government for realigning and creating the "Ministry for Energy and Green Transition" and the "Ministry for Climate Change" as well as clean energy experts, to collaborate effectively to accelerate the adoption of renewable energy solutions.
ICCCEP-GHANA outlined several key actions they find necessary in promoting clean energy in the country such as, Increased Investments in Renewable Energy, Policy and Regulatory Support and Removing Adoption Barriers.
The institute called on the public and private sector entities to boost financial commitments to clean energy technologies, including solar, wind, and hydropower.
"We advocated for developing and implementing robust policies and regulations that facilitate the growth of renewable energy technologies, calling on stakeholders to identify and address barriers hindering the adoption of clean energy while promoting innovative solutions to overcome energy access and affordability challenges," the statement said.
Mr Dovia reaffirmed ICCCEP-GHANA dedication to clean energy development. "Our mission is to ensure a sustainable energy future for all. We call on all stakeholders to unite in this effort to promote cleaner and more sustainable energy solutions across Ghana."
As the entire World marks International Day of Clean Energy on Sunday 25th January, 2025 on the theme: "Clean energy for people and planets."
ICCCEP-GHANA's appeal underscores the urgent need for collective action to build a cleaner and more sustainable future for Ghana and beyond.
