Mr. Ezekiel Awinyan Mbangiba, Water System Manager at Sege, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview that as part of efforts to boost water supply capacity, the agency awarded a contract for an expansion.
Mr. Mbangiba added that the expansion work commenced in July 2024, starting with the laying of additional pipes and installation of additional pumps at the production site.
He said noting the agency had completed the laying of the pipes and was left with the installation of additional pumps, which is ongoing.
He disclosed that after the pumps were installed, the lines would be tested and the contractors would hand over to the agency for operationalisation.
"We are very positive that the remaining activities will soon be completed to help minimise the water crisis that some communities are going through currently," he disclosed.
Mr. Mbangiba further disclosed that the 3DWSS was working to expedite the completion of the project in the earliest possible time, stating further that "during this period, we may be experiencing intermittent water supply to all communities served by CWSA."
He also apologised for any inconveniences caused during the period and pleaded with all customers to bear with them in these times.
Some beneficiary districts of the project, such as Ada West, Ada East, North Tongu, Ningo-Prampram, and Central Tongu, have expressed dissatisfaction about the water supply over the past decade, with some major demonstrations among some youth groups, assembly members, and community members in past years.
Mr. Noah Asideka, assembly member for the Ayetepa-Lotsubuer electoral area, told the GNA that water has not been flowing in his area for a year, adding that "even if the water will come, it comes deep in the night for less than thirty minutes, then it stops."
