The United Press for Development Network (UPDN), a press freedom and Youth/Media advocacy youth group, noted for its fight against Press brutalities will on Thursday, April 11, organise its maiden organizing press freedom Lecture in Accra.
The event, dubbed: "Ahmed Suale Press Freedom Memorial Lecture", to be hosted at Ghana Institute of Journalism (GIJ), Ridge-Accra, at 11am, will empanel Press Freedom Ambassadors and like-minded persons, educationists, media experts, student journalists to confer on the causes to the shameful worsening and epidemic rate of press assaults and murder in Africa's freest press country and find solutions accordingly.
A statement issued and signed by Mr Kofi Asante Mensah, Principal Servant of UPDN and Convenor of Press for Justice Coalition and copied to the Ghana News Agency said speakers at the lecture would include Mr Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, Minister for Information, Mr Kenneth T. Ashigbey Chief Executive Officer, Ghana Chamber of Telecommunications and Convenor of the Media Coalition against Galamsey and Mrs Diana Heymann Adu, Acting Dean, Faculty of Journalism, GIJ.
Others would be Mr Affail Monney President, Ghana Journalists Association, Dr. Emmanuel Kuku Biney Chief Executive Officer, Media 7 Broadcast Group and Tiger Eye PI.
The event, which would be sub-themed "Media for Democracy: Ghana's Right to Information Law, Catalyst for Change", was culled out of the 2019 official World Press Freedom Day theme: "Media for Democracy: Journalism and Elections in Times of Disinformation".
