The Western Regional Command of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has Commissioned a GH¢143,290.00 model clinic to enhance the medical needs of the personnel and the community.
The model clinic, located at the regional headquarters of the Service at Fijai, was commissioned alongside a Cenotaph.
The clinic, has a doctor's consulting room, spacious and comfortable outpatient area, pharmacy, male and female wards, antenatal facility, injection and dressing room, a laboratory as well as a store.
Assistant Chief Fire Officer (ACFCO), Mr James Emmanuel Quao, Regional commander, said the construction of the clinic was to provide emergency health care services for fire personnel as well as the general public in the region.
The Regional Commander recounted the Ghana Utilities Manufacturing Company (GHUMCO) fire explosion incident two years ago, which led to over hundred people including seven firemen who sustained various degree of injuries.
He said in the said incident, the fire officers and civilians were all rushed to the Regional Hospital because the Service did not have its own clinic.
Mr Quao explained that it was in view of this that the Service found it prudent to build its own clinic in the region to render quality health care services for fire officers in the region.
He noted that though the clinic was to be functional, the laboratory equipment, estimated at a cost of between GH¢36,000.00 and GH¢42,000.00, was still needed to complete the laboratory department.
He appealed to the public, cooperate bodies, philanthropic organizations and individuals to assist the Service procure the requisite equipment.
Mr Edwin Ekow Blankson Chief Fire Officer of GNFS, lauded the officers and men of the regional command and cooperate organization for their unflinching cooperation and support for the completion of the project on schedule.
"As Fire Officers, let us always remember that our first and foremost loyalty is to the state and to that end, we should remain committed to our duties and execute them professionally to save lives and properties of the citizenry", he said.
Mr Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah, Western Regional Minister who commissioned the project commended the Western Regional Fire Command for the tremendous work done.
He said the hallmark of a good leader was to make the lives of their subordinates better and pledged to give the Command the needed assistance and support.
