The donation, which included bags of maize, groundnuts, beans, gari, gallons of cooking oil, packs of detergent and soap, bales of clothing, and a dust bin, was part of activities to mark the church’s 11th anniversary celebration.

Donating the items, Mr. Farouk Bonifacio, a senior member of the church who led the delegation, commended the teachers and management of the school for the sacrifices, and assured them of the church’s continuous support.

According to him, the church found it necessary to support the school to be able to effectively take care of the students, particularly those from deprived homes.

He said as a special school, there was a need for special attention for the effective development and nurturing of the potentials of the hesations to support the school.

Ms. Trudy Akusika Segbefia, headmistress of the school, who was grateful for the gesture, said the items would go a long way to augment the supplies from the government.

She said part of the items would be used in helping children from poor backgrounds.

According to Ms. Segbefia, some parents keep their wards at home until they get the needed items before taking them to school especially when school reopens after vacation.

The late reporting of the students, she said, does not augur well for teaching and learning, adding “it takes time for the children to grasp what is being taught.”

She said although school re-opened last Tuesday, “it is just a handful of the children that have reported.”

She, therefore, urged parents to let their wards report to school on time, while urging government, corporate bodies and individuals to lend a helping hand to the school.
As part of the donation, the members from the church interacted with the children and teachers of the school.
