The Information Services Department (ISD) has organised a series of activities to promote social cohesion, teamwork and cultural awareness among its staff as part of the Heritage Month celebration.
The programme, held on Friday, March 27, featured traditional games, folklore and cultural displays, aimed at reconnecting staff with Ghanaian cultural roots while fostering unity across divisions.
Mrs Theresa Gorman, the Deputy Chief Information Officer in charge of Administration, said the activities were inspired by the need to revive indigenous games and practices, which were gradually fading.
“We are revisiting old games and folklore we used to draw on the ground and play, which kept us active and healthy,” she said.
She noted that such traditional pastimes served as natural forms of exercise and helped to relieve stress associated with desk-bound work, adding that the programme sought to remind staff of Ghana’s rich cultural heritage and values.
Mrs Dorothy Silo, the Deputy Chief Information Officer, Regional Coordinating Office and Head of the Gender Desk, said the event, now in its third year, had become an important platform for staff interaction.
She said the programme began with divisions presenting their totems, symbols and proverbs linked to public service, while subsequent activities included traditional games designed to encourage interaction among the staff.
“These activities bring together colleagues who may not usually interact, creating an opportunity to share ideas and strengthen unity within the organisation,” she said.
Mrs Silo indicated that the celebration would climax on Tuesday, March 31, with a regional showcase, where staff would dress in traditional attires representing Ghana’s 16 regions and engage in discussions on cultural practices, including marriage rites.
She said the month of March, which marked Ghana’s Independence, was an appropriate period to promote cultural heritage, unity and national identity.
A staff member of the Department said the activities had enhanced teamwork and provided a platform for cross-divisional engagement, enabling staff to interact, exchange ideas and celebrate Ghanaian culture.
The ISD organises the Heritage Month programme annually to promote patriotism, preserve cultural values, and strengthen collaboration among the workforce.
