A 22-year old car washer, who attacked and inflicted deep cuts on the neck and face of a mechanic with a broken bottle, has been jailed 20 years by a Kumasi Circuit Court.
Kwame Afriyie pleaded guilty to the charge of using an offensive weapon to unlawfully cause harm.
Police Chief Inspector Comfort Baffour-Kyei, told the court, presided over by Mr Justice Emmanuel Amoh-Yartey that, both the complainant, Bernard Opoku-Afriyie, and the convict live at Atonsu in Kumasi.
On July 10 this year, the two had a quarrel and were separated by some people.
Later in the evening of the same day at about 1920 hours, Opoku-Afriyie decided to go to a drinking spot to watch the FIFA World Cup semi-final match between Germany and Spain.
Kwame on seeing the complainant and without provocation, picked a coca-cola bottle, broke it and attacked him, inflicting deep wounds on the
eyebrow, right cheek and back of the neck.
The prosecution said Opoku-Afriyie, bled profusely and was rushed to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) for treatment.
The convict in his caution statement to the police admitted the crime.
