A 38-year-old carpenter has been remanded into prison custody by a Kumasi Circuit Court for allegedly defiling a 13-year-old girl.
Abubakar Sadique denied the offence and would re-appear on Wednesday, July 14.
Police Chief Inspector Comfort Baffour-Kyei told the court presided over by Mr Justice Emmanuel Amoh-Yarte, that the victim stays with her aunt at Adoato in Kumasi and has been selling chilled sachet water at the Race Course where the accused also plies his trade.
Sadique bought two sachets of water and asked the girl to come for the money later in the day with the excuse that he was busy at the time.
The prosecution said the unsuspecting victim fell for the bait as the accused took advantage of the quietness of the place and sexually assaulted
her when she went to collect the money.
He sent the girl empty handed after convincing her that he would pay her twice the amount owed the next day.
The prosecution said the second time she went, Sadique again sexually abused her and warned that she should not tell anybody about her
ordeal.
The victim fell ill some few days later and was taken to the hospital by her elder sister and there it was detected that she had been defiled.
Upon questioning she mentioned Sadique and he was arrested.
