A member of a car-snatching gang has been sentenced to 30 years imprisonment by a Kumasi Circuit Court.
Kwame Owusu, popularly known as "Asukum" pleaded not guilty to the offence.
A Chief State Attorney, Mr William Kpobi, told the Court presided over by Mr Justice Adjei Frimpong, that the complainant, Francis Oti, driver of a Daewoo Taxi cab, lived at Esaase in the Atwima-Nwabiagya District whilst the convict resided at Breman in Kumasi.
On June 9, at about 1930 hours, Owusu and two others, now at large, engaged the cab driver to carry them from Abrepo Junction to Asuofua.
The prosecution said when they came to a point near Atafoa, the convict and his accomplices drew a knife, ordered Oti to surrender the ignition keys, cell phone and daily sales of GH60.00, which he did.
They then pushed him out of the car and sped off.
Oti made a formal complaint to the Ashanti Regional Police Criminal Investigations Department (CID).
Mr Kpobi said the complainant howver spotted Owusu at the Race Course, a day after the robbery, and with the assistance of some passers-by arrested him.
The car has since not been seen.
