Job Summary:
The Transport Manager is responsible for overseeing the efficient, safe, and cost-effective transportation of goods and services. This role involves managing the day-to-day operations of the transportation department, ensuring compliance with transportation regulations, optimizing routes, and maintaining high standards of customer service. The Transport Manager will lead a team of drivers and support staff, while also collaborating with other departments to ensure seamless logistics operations.
Key Responsibilities:
Transportation Management:
Plan, coordinate, and oversee the transportation of goods and services, ensuring timely and efficient delivery.
Team Leadership:
Manage, train, and develop a team of drivers, dispatchers, and other transportation personnel. Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide ongoing support and coaching.
Route Optimization:
Analyze and optimize transportation routes to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and minimize environmental impact.
Fleet Management:
Oversee the maintenance, repair, and replacement of the transportation fleet. Ensure all vehicles are compliant with safety regulations and maintained in good working condition.
Regulatory Compliance:
Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal transportation regulations, including hours of service, vehicle inspections, and driver qualifications.
Budget Management:
Develop and manage the transportation department’s budget, including cost control measures, fuel management, and expense reporting.
Safety Management:
Implement and enforce safety policies and procedures, conducting regular safety audits and training sessions to ensure the well-being of all transportation staff.
Vendor and Contractor Management:
Manage relationships with external vendors, including vehicle leasing companies, maintenance providers, and fuel suppliers.
Customer Service:
Work closely with the customer service and sales teams to ensure high levels of customer satisfaction, addressing any transportation-related issues promptly and effectively.
Reporting and Analysis:
Monitor and report on transportation metrics, including delivery times, fuel usage, and costs. Use data to identify trends and areas for improvement.
Technology Implementation:
Utilize transportation management systems (TMS) and other technologies to improve operational efficiency and decision-making.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Transportation, Business Administration, or a related field.
- A minimum of 5-7 years of experience in transportation or logistics management, with at least 3 years in a supervisory or management role.
- Strong knowledge of transportation regulations and industry best practices.
- Excellent leadership and team management skills.
- Proficiency in transportation management systems (TMS) and other relevant software.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.
