We’re currently seeking an Interpreter & Scribe to join our team. The person filling this position will play a vital role in facilitating effective communication between individuals (team members and community members alike) who speak different languages such as: Twi, Dagbani & English. The Interpreter & Scribe will be responsible for interpreting spoken languages in real time, reviewing and proofreading translated material, and ensuring that communication among team members, as well as between team members and members of the various communities we serve, is accurate and culturally appropriate. Where scribing duties are concerned, the Interpreter & Scribe will apply to scribing & note-taking the same degree of quality they apply to their interpretation duties to ensure what they capture on behalf of team and community members is accurate and culturally appropriate.
Act as an Interpreter between a wide range of people with diverse voices, accents, speaking tempos and personalities within the organisation and for members of the communities we serve.
Translate messages, live speeches, voice recordings and documents into specified target languages, with careful attention to providing proper context, meaning, tone and technical wording.
Impart thought, purpose, spirit, emotions and tone of speakers / author from source language into target language.
Collaborate with and assist the Translation Media Specialist in cultural adaptation and localisation of source material to ensure effective communication across the organisation and communities we serve.
Collaborate with team members to compile helpful information, including terms and definitions, into an organised glossary for regular reference during the translation process.
Identify terms and words with varied or possibly conflicting meanings to determine which alternative provides clarity and reflects the original purpose of the message.
Lead a small team to conduct internal reviews of translated material to ensure it is reflective of authorial intent, preserving the integrity of the intended meaning while ensuring that there is a balance between source and target language bias.
Maintain and improve the Translation Memory as well as the Translation Glossary databases.
Render sight translations of documents and other written materials.
Take notes and scribe on behalf of community & team members in a manner that is clear, accurate, and comprehensive, while maintaining confidentiality.
