Job Purpose
The Senior Accountant plays a critical role in managing and overseeing the financial health of the organization. This position is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, preparing reports, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, and providing leadership to the accounting team.
Key Responsibilities
- Financial Management and Reporting
- Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Ensure accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with applicable accounting standards (e.g., IFRS, GAAP).
- Develop and maintain accounting policies and procedures to streamline operations.
2.General Ledger Oversight
- Supervise the maintenance of the general ledger and ensure all accounts are reconciled regularly.
- Review and approve journal entries, accruals, and adjustments prepared by the accounting team.
- Conduct regular account reconciliations to ensure accuracy and completeness.
3.Budgeting and Forecasting
- Collaborate with the finance team to develop annual budgets and financial forecasts.
- Monitor budget performance, analyze variances, and provide insights to management.
- Assist in the preparation of cash flow projections to support financial planning.
4.Compliance and Audit
- Ensure compliance with statutory requirements, tax laws, and company policies.
- Liaise with external auditors and provide necessary documentation for audits.
- Identify and mitigate risks by implementing and enforcing internal controls.
5.Team Leadership and Development
- Supervise, mentor, and provide guidance to Accounts Officers and Accounts Clerks.
- Conduct performance reviews and identify training needs to enhance team capabilities.
- Foster a collaborative and productive work environment within the accounting team.
6.Accounts Payable and Receivable Oversight
- Monitor the accounts payable and receivable functions to ensure timely and accurate processing.
- Review aging reports and follow up on overdue payments or outstanding receivables.
- Ensure proper documentation and reconciliation of payables and receivables.
7.Special Projects and Analysis
- Provide financial insights and analysis to support strategic decision-making.
- Lead or assist in special projects, such as system implementations or process improvements.
- Prepare ad-hoc financial reports and presentations for senior management.
