SuperSport viewers on DStv and GOtv can look forward to action from the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations Qualifying, with group stage, Matchday 5 fixtures set to be played on Sunday 18 and Tuesday 20 June 2023.
DStv and GOtv is the only true home of football in Africa, offering a range and depth of action that no other rival can match – it’s literally ‘Unbeatable Football’! If you’re going to spend your money on something, it may as well be on the best football in the world.
The highlight of a busy Sunday is a Group A clash between Sierra Leone and Nigeria in which a win for the Super Eagles will see them secure qualification for next year’s AFCON finals. Jose Peseiro’s team had a mixed time of things in March, recording a 1-0 home loss and 1-0 away win against Guinea-Bissau.
“We were unlucky to lose to Guinea-Bissau, but I was proud of the way the team bounced back from that,” said Peseiro. “Now we must put that behind us and focus on the task at hand, which is ensuring that we will be in the Ivory Coast for the tournament.”
Sunday also features a clutch Group L match between Mozambique and Rwanda – with the winners set to be in prime position to join AFCON champions Senegal in qualification – and Ghana will look to secure top spot in Group E with a win away to Madagascar.
In addition, Group F will potentially be decided, as Tanzania chase a win at home to Niger, while Uganda face a testing clash at home to already-qualified Algeria, and Group B sees Eswatini and Togo each chasing a first win when they clash.
Matchday 5 wraps up on Tuesday, with Namibia looking to qualify with a win away to Group C rivals Burundi, and Ethiopia will chase a home win over Malawi in Group D.
Brave Warriors coach Collin Benjamin believes his team’s blend of youth and experience has benefited them greatly thus far: “It’s clear that the young players bring a lot of energy to the squad, and they are eager to learn and contribute in any way they can,” said the former national team player.
“On the other hand, the experienced players play an important role in guiding the younger players and sharing their wealth of knowledge. This process of mentoring and learning cannot be rushed and it takes time to develop.”
