The Energy Foundation has stressed the need for people to use low electricity consuming appliances to conserve energy and to reduce their energy cost.
Mr Ernest Asare, the Director of Communications at the Energy Foundation, who spoke at a forum on energy conservation in Koforidua said although the hydro-power was stable, there was still the need to conserve energy.
He mentioned electrical appliances such as electric cookers, kettles and water heaters, freezers and fridges, blenders and irons as high electricity consuming gadgets that should be used in moderation.
Mr Asare explained that iron for instance cannot be replaced by any means but added that its energy cost can be reduced to the barest minimum when people embrace bulk ironing.
The forum was organized in collaboration with the New Juaben Traditional Council to highlight the need for energy conservation as part of activities to mark the Akwantukese festival of the people in the area.
The Eastern Regional Marketing Officer of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), Mr Adu Obuobi, who was answering questions on the frequent power outages in the municipality, said it was not a deliberate act by the ECG to put the lights off for any pleasure as had been the perception.
He rather explained that the power outages were as a result of the failure of the synchronization system between the Volta River Authority (VRA) and other energy plants to generate power for consumption.
Mr Obuobi also added that it was not a peculiar issue to the people of Juaben alone, but a national one that stakeholders were putting measures in place to forestall its occurrence.
Nana Akwasi Adarkwah, the Abesimhene of New Juaben, who represented the Omanhene, appealed to the public and selected schoolchildren at the forum to educate their parents on how to use electrical appliances to conserve energy.
