The Minority Caucus in Parliament today expressed profound grief over the helicopter crash that killed eight people, including two government ministers from the ruling party.
The statement signed by the Minority Leader, Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin described the victims as "fathers, husbands, sons, and devoted patriots" who had begun their day with the intention of serving Ghana.
Among the deceased were Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah and Environment Minister Alhaji Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, along with other government officials and military personnel.
Afenyo-Markin paid personal tribute to the two ministers, recalling his interactions with them across political lines.
"Hon Dr Alhaji Murtala Mohammed and I may have sat across the parliamentary aisle, but we shared countless moments of genuine discourse about Ghana's future," he stated.
The Minority Leader also praised Dr. Boamah's contributions as Defence Minister, noting his "scholar's intellect combined with a patriot's heart" in their private conversations about military modernisation.
In a show of national unity, the statement declared: "Your loss is our loss; your grief is our grief," extending condolences to both the President and the families of all victims. The Minority called for Ghanaians to honour the deceased by supporting the armed forces and working towards national prosperity.
The helicopter had been travelling from Accra to Obuasi when it crashed yesterday morning, killing all on board. Parliament is expected to hold a special session to commemorate the victims.
