The items include desktops computers, mobile phones, projectors, generators, and other office equipment.

The Chief of Mission of the IOM, Ms Fatou Diallo Ndiaye, presenting the items urged the GIS to make good use of the equipment presented to them.

“I am pleased to present these items to the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) to support your efforts in managing migration effectively. I urge you to make good use of these resources, which include ICT equipment and logistics, to enhance your administrative and operational capabilities,” she said.
    

“Your dedication to promoting safe and informed migration is commendable, and I am confi­dent that these items will contrib­ute to your success,” she added.

According to the Comptroller General of Immigration, Kwame Asuah Takyi, this donation would significantly enhance the GIS’s operational capabilities, particu­larly in the Migration Informa­tion Centre (MIC).

The MIC plays a crucial role in providing independent, accurate, and up-to-date information to potential migrants in Ghana.

Since its establishment in 2009, the MIC has expanded to various regions, providing migration-re­lated information and support. However, a recent joint needs assessment mission revealed sig­nificant knowledge and resource gaps that have impeded the effec­tiveness of the selected centres.

The IOM’s donation aims to address these gaps, enabling the GIS to inform decisions, partic­ipate in safe and regular migra­tion, and avoid the dangers of irregular migration. The donation will also support migrants who have returned to Ghana, ensur­ing a smooth transition to their respective communities.

Moreover, Mr Takyi expressed its gratitude to the IOM and the Swiss Development Corporation for their financial assistance and support.

“I, therefore, call on all stake­holders, government agencies, international partners, local com­munities, and NGOs to deepen their commitment and partner­ship with the GIS to improve migration management in the country,” he stated.

“Together, we can ensure that the MICs are fully equipped to deliver on their mandate and meet the needs of migrants,” he added.
