A pupil teacher at the Rangoon Camp ‘2’ Primary School at Burma Camp in Accra, Mrs Gloria Sarfo Nyamekye, was on the weekend adjudged the 2024 overall best Teacher / Worker in the La Dade-Kotopon Municipality.
Mrs Nyamekye received one chest freezer, a burner cooker with an oven and a citation for her prize.
The event was organised to recognise the outstanding contributions of teachers and non-teaching staff in the municipality.
In the Kindergarten category, Ms Cecilia Kebir of the Air Force Special KG won the best Teacher award.
Juliana Kodjoe of Association Community Model Basic School and Rebecca Owoodo of the Base Ordinance Basic School, won the first and second runners up position respectively, in the Kindergarten category.
Ms Zenabu Kassim, a teacher at Burma Camp, emerged as the best Primary Teacher, while Faustina Boayerik of Base Ordinance Basic School and Victoria Esi Amissah of the Services Primary/JHS won the second and third spots, respectively.
Ms Celestina Akaba of St. Paul’s Junior High School took the best JHS Teacher award, and Daniel Sam of Garrison JHS was the first runner-up, and Felicity Bronya of Services Primary/JHS was the second runner.
The only sport for the Senior High School best Teachers award went to Theory Ossafua of the Forces SHS, Burma Camp, while Grace Lattuah of 5BN KG, secured the Long Service award, and Patricia Kwakyewaa of the Forces SHS took home the best non-teaching worker award.
The awardees received double-door fridges, chest freezers, four-burner cookers with oven, 32 inches smart television, microwaves, rice cookers, burners gas stove, blenders, Ice chests and ceiling fans.
The Deputy Director General, Management Services, Ghana Education Service (GES), Mr Steven Kweku Owusu, commended the award winners for their contributions to the promotion of education.
The Municipal Education Director of LaDMA, Ms Habiba Kotomah, said the awards and prizes shows the recognition of teachers and non-teachers’ tireless efforts, creativity, and passion that had made profound impact on the lives of countless young minds in the assembly.
Mr Solomon Kotey Nikoi, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for LaDMA, said the assembly had five thematic areas of development for the year and education is the first on their list due to the significant role it plays in nation building.
A former Educational Director for La Dade-Kotopon Municipality, Ms Bernice A. Addae, urged teachers to continue playing pivotal role in the implementation of policies of the Ministry of Education in order to ensure that students received the right guidance, motivation and instruction
