Mr James Agbedor, Secretary to the Board of Directors of Agriculture Development Bank (ADB) on Friday, assured its customers that the bank was updating its software for compliance with the re-denomination of the cedi in anticipation of a smooth take-off.
He said the bank it had acquired new equipment including notes and coins counting machines and undertaken vigorous in-house training of staff for the exercise.
Mr Agbedor gave the assurance when addressing an outreach programme on the re-denomination of the cedi at Hohoe.
It was attended by over 400 participants made up of civil society groups, chiefs, clients, traders and the clergy.
He said enough precautionary measures had been taken against currency loss as pertained in the country in 1979 and urged the public to be vigilant and report any doubtful characters to the law enforcement agencies.
Mr Samuel M. B. Azaglo, Manager in-charge of Domestic Banking of ADB said with effect from July 1, all cheques would be written in new Ghana Cedis with the face value agreeing in figures and words.
He said Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) countrywide would not function on June 29 and 30, to make way for the conversion.
Mr Azaglo appealed to customers to co-operate with the banks and patronize deposits and withdrawal forms and counter cheques during the transition period since new cheques were yet to be made.
He said customers could only receive their statements of accounts for January-June while the rest for the year would be produced from Accra.
Mrs Lydia Bedu-Addo, Eastern Region Area Manger of ADB said beyond the West African Pound, which was the legal tender before Independence, the country had witnessed a couple of currency changes, devaluation and de-monetization of the cedi.
Mr Benedictus Kumassah, Acting Hohoe Manager of ADB said adequate security measures was deployed in the printing of the currency and appealed to Ghanaians to be extra alert against counterfeiting.
Togbega Gabusu, Paramount Chief of Gbi Traditional Area called on all stakeholders to mainstream the exercise.
