STOCK MARKET REVIEW
The Ghana Stock Exchange closed stronger for the week, supported by gains in 7 counters. The GSE Composite Index (GSE CI) gained 38.82 points (1.68%) to close at 2,343.91 points reflecting a year-to-date (YTD) gain of 20.72%. The GSE Financial Stocks Index (GSE FI) on the other hand gained 23.35 points (1.27%) to close at 1,864.04 points reflecting YTD gain of 4.56%.
Market capitalization for the week was GH¢58,525.05 representing 0.69% gain from GH¢58,088.58 million at the close of the previous week. This reflects YTD increase of 7.63%.
Trading activity improved for the week relative to activity in the prior week. A total of 3,644,834 shares, valued at GH¢3,127,809.14 changed hands for the week, compared with 18,202,892 shares, valued at GH¢14,087,555.33 in the preceding week.
CAL Bank PLC dominated volume of trades for the week, accounting for 86.12% of total shares traded. CAL Bank PLC also dominated total trades by value, accounting for 79.89% of total value of shares traded.

CURRENCY MARKET
The Cedi held steady against the USD for the week. It traded at GH¢5.7309/$ on Friday, against GH¢5.7319/$ at week open, reflecting w/w and YTD appreciations of 0.02% and 0.51% respectively against the USD. This compares with YTD appreciation of 0.43% a year ago.
The Cedi on the other hand weakened against the GBP at week close. It traded at GH¢7.9365/£, compared with GH¢7.9221/£ at week open, reflecting w/w and YTD depreciations of 0.18% and 0.78% respectively against the GBP. This compares with YTD appreciation of 6.29% a year ago.
The Cedi also weakened against the Euro. It traded at GH¢6.9166/€, compared with GH¢6.8664/€ at week open, reflecting w/w depreciation and YTD appreciation of 0.73% and 2.14% respectively against the Euro. This compares with YTD appreciation of 3.61% in 2020.
The Cedi strengthened against the CAD on the week. It opened at GH¢4.5856/C$ but closed at GH¢4.5830/C$, reflecting w/w and YTD depreciations of 0.06% and 1.17% respectively against the CAD. This compares with YTD appreciation of 8.76% a year ago.

GOVERNMENT SECURITIES MARKET
Government raised a sum of GH¢1,760.15 million for the week across the 91-Day, 182-Day and 364-Day Treasury Bills. This compared with GH¢886.47 million raised in the previous week.
The 91-Day Bill lost 1bp to settle at 12.78% whilst the 182-Day and 364-Day Bills added 5bps and 8bps each to settle at 13.53% p.a and 16.53% p.a respectively.

COMMODITY MARKET
Oil prices fell for the week on worries about the rising COVID-19 cases in India and Japan. Brent futures traded at US$66.11 a barrel on Friday, reflecting w/w loss and YTD gain of 0.99% and 27.63% respectively.
Gold prices eased marginally for the week following an uptick in the U.S. 10-year Treasury note. Gold futures settled at US$1,777.00 per ounce on Friday, reflecting w/w and YTD losses of 0.11% and 6.23% respectively.
Prices of Cocoa meanwhile strengthened for the second straight week. Cocoa futures settled at US$2,4010.00 per tonne, reflecting w/w gain and YTD loss of 0.08% and 7.41% respectively.
