The McDan Amateur Boxing competition, was staged at the Jubilee Park in Tamale, on the night of Independence Day Celebration, as part of activities to mark the country’s 62nd Independence Day celebrations.
The competition, organized by McDan Foundation, in collaboration with the Ghana Boxing Federation (GBF), saw about 20 Amateur Boxers drawn from Greater Accra and Northern Regions, face-off in 13 bouts in the night.
Mohammed Ayitey, a 16 year-old amateur boxer, from Accra, was adjudged the overall best boxer and took home cash prizes and assorted products.
The competition formed part of efforts by the McDan Foundation to unearth boxing talents to become world champions and bring laurels to the country.
Mr Daniel McKorley, Chief Executive Officer of McDan Group of Companies encouraged the boxers to work hard in their chosen sports and assured them that he would support them with the necessary resources to enable them to excel.
Meanwhile, the McDan Foundation has also inaugurated an eight unit classroom block for Teong community in the Tempani District of the Upper East Region to facilitate access to quality education in the area.
