A hairdresser, Akua Bafowaa, 36, who lives at Kromantse near Saltpond was on Thursday sentenced to a fine of GH₵480.00 or in default six months imprisonment for threatening one Ms. Angelina Painstil, a 36-year-old business woman at Anomabo.
Bafowaa pleaded guilty to threat of death and was also bonded to be of good behavior for two years and failure will attract another six months in prison by a Cape Coast Circuit Court presided over by Mrs. Florence Kai Otu.
The prosecutor, Inspector Daniel Baidoo, told the court that Ms. Paintsil, Bafowaa and one Agatha were close friends sometime back but their relationship got strained.
This was after Bafowaa and Agatha accused Ms. Paintsil of revealing a secret to Agatha’s boyfriend that Agatha was flirting with another man.
Inspector Baidoo said Ms Paintsil to prove her innocence asked Agatha’s boyfriend by name Paapa to reveal his source of information about Agatha to clear her name to put a stop to the abuses by her friends.
He told the court that Paapa later cleared Ms. Paintsil’s name by revealing his source, yet the two friends did not believe it and insisted that it was Ms. Paintisl who told Paapa about the secret.
Bafowaa then went to Ms. Paintisl's house on May 14 and left a message via one Ms. Abena Akoa that she should get ready for her because she would kill Ms. Paintsil if she met her and that she was prepared to go to jail.
Inspector Baidoo said on receiving the message, Ms. Paintsil reported the matter to the police and Bafowaa who was arrested admitted the offense in her caution statement.
