A Goaso Magistrate's court has remanded two suspects who allegedly shot and killed a Police Sergeant at Bonsam Bepo Forest Reserve in Asunafo South District in prison custody.
The court presided over by Mr Albert Zoogah, did not take their plea and ordered Kwadwo Nsia, 51 and Ali Salam 22, to be remanded and re-appear on November 14.
Police Chief Inspector Charles Arthur, prosecuting told the court that about two weeks ago Mr Sarfo Nixon, Bush Manager of Ayum Forest Products of Mim Timbers approached Nsia, a concession guard of Opoku Transport and Sons Limited, a Kumasi-based timber firm to fell timber from the reserve.
He said Nsia entered the reserve and showed Mr Nixon six timber trees and at about 1800 hours on October 27, this year, Mr Nixon approached the deceased, Police Sergeant Adomako Nimo, Station Officer at Asumura Police station to assist him to convey the timber logs to Mim.
The prosecutor said when they were loading the logs into a timber truck Nsia came to the reserve with Salam and started firing warning shots to scare them.
Police Chief Inspector Arthur said a misunderstanding ensued between the deceased and Salam and in an ensuing scuffle a locally manufactured gun that Salam was holding went off and killed the deceased instantly.
