Mr. Oscar Frimpong Ashanti Regional Chairman of Association of Road Contractors, has stressed the need for the government to tap into the experiences and expertise of retired professionals in the development and implementation of policies and programmes.
He said retired civil and public servants as well as professionals were an embodiment of wisdom and knowledge that any government could resort to and take advantage of their skills and expertise to shape policy and development objectives.
Mr. Frimpong made the call at the inauguration of Ghana Highway Authority Retired Staff Association (GHARSA) and a Send-off ceremony in honour of Mr Christian Nti, the immediate past Ashanti Regional Director of Ghana Highway Authority (GHA), who is also the patron of GHARSA.
He said people on retirement could be appointed as consultants in their areas of specialty to enable them to bring their rich store of experience and expertise to bear on national development.
Mr. Frimpong urged members of GHARSA to grow gracefully and be ready at all times to continue to offer their services to nation building efforts.
Nana Owusu Nyanin, Chief of Kwamo, who chaired the function, mentioned some of the issues that affected pensioners as health, poverty and discrimination saying this should be a concern to government.
He advised the pensioners to undergo frequent medical checkups, especially for prostate and seek early treatment if they had signs and symptoms of the disease.
Nana Ninsin-Imbeah 11, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of GHARSA, said the Association was formed two years ago to pull resources to support the work of Ghana Highways Authority.
He called for prompt payment of retirement packages and other benefits of pensioners to enable them to live comfortably after their service to the nation.
