Though there is price reduction in items such tomatoes and pepper the prices of yam and maize remained unchanged.

A market survey conducted by the GNA in the Takoradi Market Circle showed that an Olonka of tomatoes, which sold last week at GHS20.00 is now being sold at GHS15.00, while the price of pepper which was GHS15.00 last week is now GHS10.00

An Olonka of onion is sold for GHS10.00 as against GHS15.00 last week.

Meanwhile the prices of tubers of yam and an Olonka of maize remained the same, with a sizable tuber of yam going for GHS9.00, while an Olonka of maize is GHS6.00.

Madam Mary Mensah who is the vice queen of the plantain sellers, said the price of Plantain was normal with four fingers of plantain going for five cedis.

She hinted that there were rumours that the Market circle would be demolished by September 2019, but that they have not been informed where they would be relocated to.

Madam Mary pleaded with the authorities to relocate them before the market was demolished, if the speculations were true.

She also expressed concern about the unavailability of lights in the market, which she noted was a big challenge to them, adding that though some individuals had fixed lights in their sheds, it was not enough to cover the whole market.

Madam Mary said the constant raise in transportation fares also affected their businesses and therefore pleaded with the government to help stabilize the fares to help save their businesses.
