The creation of the decent market for traders is a partial fulfilment of the UN's 2030 agenda to eradicate poverty by addressing inequalities in incomes and economic opportunities among men and women.

The market shed would offer most of women trader an organised environment to ply their trade, raise their income levels and thereby make them self- sufficient and independent.

The GHC150,000.00 market shed project, to be completed in October this year is under the sponsorship of METKA, a company working within the Shama District of the Western Region.

Mr Mawuli Asempa, the Operations Manager for METKA, at the ground breaking ceremony said the 640 square foot community market would have ancillary facilities such as places of convenience, urinals among other infrastructure to make business in the market an enjoyable and convenient one.

"We seek to promote people centered approach to poverty eradication through full participation of people living in poverty in all aspect of the political, economic and social life...this has been the roadmap of initiatives undertaken by our parent company, Mytilineos worldwide," he added.

Mr Joseph Amoah, the Shama District Chief Executive, said the project came to light through the persistence interactions by the leadership of the company with the chiefs and people of the community, adding that this demonstrates the relevance of public private engagements.

The market according to him, would add significant value to the lifestyle of women in the area as it would help transform their lives.

The DCE said the Assembly would continue to engage with communities under its jurisdiction in addition to other stakeholders, to build a strong district.

Nana Kobina Attom III, the Chief of Aboadze was grateful to the elders, the local Council of Churches and the Assembly for their continuous engagement with METKA to ensure that their dream of a decent market became a reality.

He encouraged the contractor to use good materials that could withstand the sea breeze as the place was a coastal settlement.

Nana Attom advised the women who would be the main users of the facilities to properly maintain it and avoid fires hazards that had caused many businesses lots of woes across markets within the country.

METKA, is part of MYTILINEOS S.A. which is a leading Greek industrial company operating in the Metallurgy, Power, Gas and Engineering, Procurement Contracts.

In Ghana, METKA has built a 250mw power plant in Aboadze and is currently working on the 192mw combine cycle Amandi Energy Plant in Aboadze and 200mw combine cycle Bridge Power Plant in Tema.
