Accra Hearts of Oak have congratulated their first choice goalkeeper, Benjamin Asare, after he was named Goalkeeper of the Year at the 2025 Ghana Football Awards following a remarkable season in the Ghana Premier League.
The 31-year-old shot-stopper stood tall between the sticks for Hearts of Oak, delivering a string of outstanding performances that earned him numerous clean sheets and made him the safest pair of hands in the country.
His form was so impressive that it also earned him a call-up to the Black Stars, where he successfully dislodged Lawrence Ati-Zigi to become the first-choice goalkeeper for the senior national team.
Hearts of Oak recognised Asare’s immense contribution to their season, praising his hard work, discipline and maturity in guarding their goal.
His prowess and agility were key factors in helping the Phobians to a fourth-place finish in the just-ended league.
Asare, who joined the Phobians from city rivals, Great Olympics two seasons ago, is now the captain of the Accra-based side and a key leader on and off the pitch. His ability to perform under pressure and inspire his teammates has made him a standout figure in the team’s defensive structure.
In a message to celebrate his award, Hearts stated: “He guarded the goal and now he owns the crown!”
The club further expressed its happiness at Asare’s achievements and insisted his hard work and excellence were well-deserving of the honour.
“Congratulations to our very own Benjamin Asare, your hard work and excellence earn you the title of Goalkeeper of the Year! Phobia is proud of you!,” the message read.
