Black Stars Goalkeeper, Benjamin Asare, has expressed his determination to maintain his place in the national team as he prepares for the upcoming four-nation tournament in the United Kingdom.
The 32-year-old Hearts of Oak shot-stopper, who recently earned another call-up to the national team, is hoping to solidify his position as Ghana’s first-choice goalkeeper ahead of Lawrence Ati-Zigi.
Speaking in an interview with Max TV, Asare described the invitation as an hon
our and acknowledged the challenges local-based players face in earning national recognition.
"I'm grateful to God, our supporters and all Ghanaians for their support," Asare said. "It is not easy for a local player to get an invite to the Black Stars. Every match is a tough one for us, so we are always ready when we get a call-up."
Asare made his debut appearance for the national team during the World Cup qualifiers against Chad and Madagascar. His performance during training reportedly impressed the coaching staff, earning him a starting role and placing him firmly in contention for the number one spot.
Reflecting on the demands of representing the national team, Asare emphasised the importance of mental preparation.
"We have to psyche ourselves and prepare because anything can happen at any time. Since we have received a call-up, we have to be ready to represent and make Ghanaians proud," he added.
The experienced goalkeeper is now focused on maintaining his form and proving his worth as the Black Stars continue their preparations for the remaining World Cup qualifying matches scheduled for next year.
