The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has confirmed that all teams set to face Nsoatreman FC in the ongoing Premier League will be awarded three points and three goals following the club’s abrupt withdrawal from the competition.
This decision follows the enforcement of Article 13(5) of the league’s regulations, which states that if a club pulls out after the season has commenced, all its remaining fixtures will be deemed forfeited, with three points and three goals automatically granted to their opponents.
The dramatic turn of events was triggered on March 14, when Nsoatreman FC formally informed the GFA of its decision to exit the league, citing serious safety concerns regarding the security of their players.
The club pointed to disturbing incidents in recent matches against Asante Kotoko SC and FC Samartex 1996, claiming the hostile conditions made it impossible to guarantee the well-being of their squad.
Despite efforts by the GFA to persuade them to reconsider, Nsoatreman stood firm on their decision, forcing the football body to invoke the necessary regulations.
With this ruling, all teams that were yet to play Nsoatreman will automatically receive three points and three goals, a development that could heavily influence the title race and relegation battle.
Additionally, the GFA has referred the case to its Prosecutor, with disciplinary proceedings set to follow in accordance with the governing regulations, including potential sanctions under Article 13(5).
The football body has assured stakeholders that further updates will be provided as the legal process unfolds.
However, this shock decision will undoubtedly leave a lasting impact on the competition, with clubs now recalculating their strategies in light of the unexpected points redistribution.
