The Club Licensing Committee of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has rejected six stadiums, including the Baba Yara and University of Ghana Stadiums, due to failure to meet the necessary licensing standards.
Baba Yara Stadium, the home ground of Asante Kotoko SC, has been deemed unfit because it lacks a designated safe zone.
Kotoko are expected to resolve this issue in the coming days or risk having to play their home matches away from Kumasi, which could result in significant financial and logistical challenges.
Hearts of Oak, Legon Cities, and Accra Lions are also affected, as the University of Ghana Stadium did not meet the required standards for licensing.
Additionally, the Golden City Park in Berekum (home to Berekum Chelsea), AAK Ampanian Stadium in Nzema (home to Basake Holy Stars), and Wenchi Sports Stadium (home to Young Apostles) have all been deemed unfit for use.
The affected clubs will either need to secure alternative venues or make the necessary improvements to meet the licensing requirements.
This decision follows the GFA’s Enhanced Matchday Safety and Security Protocols for 2025, which were implemented after consultations with clubs, security agencies, and supporters.
After a month’s break, Ghana’s top-flight football league is set to resume this weekend, with Accra Hearts of Oak facing Young Apostles at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium on Saturday—an exciting fixture that will kick-start the race for the league title!
The suspension followed the tragic stabbing of Asante Kotoko supporter Francis Yaw Frimpong, affectionately known as Pooley, during a heated encounter with Nsoatreman FC at the Nana Koronamansah II Park in Twumasikrom, near Nsoatre.
