The Veterans Table Tennis Association Ghana (VTTAG) has officially launched a national league aimed at promoting table tennis among veterans.
The decentralized league, which commenced last Saturday, currently covers five regions: Western, Central, Greater Accra, Eastern, and Ashanti. Its primary objective is to generate nationwide interest and encourage participation in table tennis among individuals aged 40 and above. Interested participants can register by calling the dedicated hotline: 0240968079.
The launch event, held at Seven Great Princes Academy in Dansoman, Accra, was marked by a brief but colorful ceremony. Speaking at the event, Christopher King, President of VTTAG, emphasized the association’s vision of making table tennis a national pastime.
“Table tennis has been touted as the best racquet sport, promoting health, longevity, and mental agility. VTTAG emphasizes that the sport is an excellent way to stay young and active, aligning with our motto: ‘Forever Young,’” he stated.
The league will be played biweekly across the various regions. Participants are not required to belong to a club or team—they can simply bring their racquet, register, and compete. King encouraged all interested veterans to join the league and be ranked, noting that with its inclusive and accessible approach, VTTAG aims to make table tennis a staple activity for veterans across Ghana.
VTTAG also introduced new rules and regulations for its 2025 Table Tennis League, which follows a single round-robin format among registered participants. Under the new rules, all matches will be played in a best-of-five games format, with participants earning points for each game won. These points will be added to each player’s ranking on the General Ranking Table of VTTAG.
At the end of the season, points will be awarded based on final league standings, ranging from 200 points for the first position to 40 points for the 20th position. Participants will be allowed to play a maximum of three league matches per match week. Outstanding league matches must be played before the next match day, and all league matches must be played in the presence of at least one other league participant. Confirmed results of all league matches across active regions must be submitted to the VTTAG Technical Committee.
The VTTAG Table Tennis League seeks to promote health, fitness, and enjoyment among veteran players. With its inclusive and competitive format, the league is expected to attract widespread participation across Ghana.
