The University of Ghana Corporate Football League has received a major boost as Glico General Insurance announced a GH?1million insurance package to cover players and fans throughout the tournament.
The announcement was made yesterday during the league’s official launch at the VIP Lounge of the University of Ghana Sports Stadium.
The highly anticipated league features 18 corporate teams from some of Ghana’s top institutions, including Bui Power Authority, Lancaster Hotel, Telecel Ghana, National Petroleum Authority, Stanbic Bank Ghana, Ghana Armed Forces Officers Sports Club, Media General Network, Forestry Commission, Ghana Civil Aviation Authority, Ghana Football Association, and Ghana National Petroleum Corporation.
Teams from the University of Ghana are also participating, including the College of Humanities, College of Health Sciences, College of Education, College of Basic & Applied Sciences, Central Administration, University of Ghana Alumni Association, and defending champions The Union Ghana.
Speaking at the launch, the Managing Director of Glico General Insurance, Andrew Achampong-Kyei, emphasized the company’s commitment to ensuring a secure and competitive environment for all participants.
“Football is a sport that brings people together, but it also carries risks. Our GHC 1 million insurance package is designed to give players and fans the confidence to enjoy the game, knowing they are protected,” he stated.
The sponsorship package sets a new benchmark for corporate football sponsorship in Ghana, providing medical protection for players, injury coverage, and overall safety throughout the 20-week tournament.
With the tournament officially launched, attention now shifts to the season opener on Friday, February 21, 2025, where defending champions The Union Ghana will begin their title defense against the College of Humanities. The opening day will feature four matches, setting the stage for an exciting and competitive season.
