Vice President of the Ghana American Football Federation, Hamza Luwaa Jibril, has stated that the Federation has set a target to qualify to compete in the sport at the 2028 Olympics.
The next Olympic Games will be held in Los Angeles with Flag Football set to make its debut as an Olympic sport in the upcoming games. Flag Football is the non-contact version of American Football and is open to male and female athletes.
The Ghana American Football Vice said this in an exclusive interview with Citi Sports on the sidelines of Flag Football All Star Game and National Football League (NFL) Watch Party for the Philadelphia Eagles and Washington Commanders game.
Flag football teams in Ghana participated in the event that had Cape Coast Predators lose 18-0 to Elite United in the final game while St. Kizito RC School won the Under 14 competition that attracted scores of American Football fans including Actor and Comedian Michael Blackson.
“In 2028, at the Olympics, Flag Football will debut as an Olympic sport so we are working from this year, 2025, 2026, 2027, we are working on our continental championship to be able to qualify Ghana to the Olympics in the US” Hamza Jibril said.
In the NFL, the Washington Commanders completed a comeback to beat Philadelphia Eagles 36-33.
