Hope Kodzo Avayevu, a talented 22-year-old attacking midfielder, has officially signed with 2023 United Soccer League (USL) Championship winners.
The signing, announced by the club, is pending league and federation approval as well as the issuance of his P-1 Visa.
Avayevu, widely celebrated for his exceptional vision and playmaking prowess, is expected to bolster the Rising’s midfield with his creativity and offensive versatility.
The Ghanaian footballer joins Phoenix Rising after showcasing his skills at Ventura County FC and North Texas SC, where he built a reputation as a dynamic force in the USL leagues.
Speaking about the signing, Phoenix Rising Head Coach Pa-Modou Kah, who previously worked with Avayevu, expressed confidence in the young talent. “Hope is a talented player I’ve had the pleasure of working with before. He’s a creative player with exceptional quality who will excite our fans with goals and assists. My staff and I are eager to help him reach his full potential, which will, in turn, help this organization achieve success,” said Coach Kah.
Avayevu began his professional journey with North Texas SC in 2021, after impressing scouts during an international talent program. Over three seasons, he notched 11 goals and 19 assists in 68 matches, earning recognition as one of the league’s standout young players. His ability to read the game and exploit defensive gaps made him a key contributor in both scoring and setting up goals.
At Ventura County FC in 2024, Avayevu continued to impress, further cementing his reputation as a creative force on the pitch. His transition to Phoenix Rising is seen as a strategic move for the club as it aims to build a competitive roster for the upcoming 2025 season.
“I’m honored to join Phoenix Rising and embrace the opportunity to compete with a club that has such ambitious goals,” said Avayevu in a statement. “Having worked with Coach Pa in Dallas, I know his high expectations and how he motivates players to excel. This is the ideal environment for me to grow and contribute, and I’m excited to bring my creativity and passion to the field. I look forward to making our fans proud as we work toward achieving great things together.”
Standing at 5 feet 6 inches and weighing 140 pounds, Avayevu may not have the towering physique of some of his peers, but his football intelligence and technical skills make him a formidable presence on the field. His signing is a testament to Phoenix Rising’s commitment to acquiring high-potential talent as it strives for success in the United Soccer League.
For Ghana, Avayevu’s rise is yet another example of the country’s ability to produce football talent that excels on the international stage. With this latest chapter in his career, Ghanaian fans will undoubtedly follow his progress and cheer him on as he continues to make waves abroad.
