Ruby Mace popped up in the 94th minute to claim a late point for Birmingham and deny West Ham a vital win.
The defender arrived at the back post to tap home Sarah Mayling's cross in the last action of the game.
The Hammers had looked set to leapfrog the Blues in the WSL table when Katerina Svitkova's 73rd-minute shot saw them come from behind to lead.
Emily Murphy had put the visitors ahead after nine minutes, before Emily van Egmond's 46th-minute equaliser.
Birmingham enjoyed the better of the opening exchanges and went ahead when Claudia Walker's shot was blocked and fell perfectly for Murphy to fire home the rebound for her first WSL goal.
West Ham were back on level terms inside the opening minute of the second half as Van Egmond poked home from six yards after Blues goalkeeper Hannah Hampton failed to hold on to a hanging Gilly Flaherty cross.
Van Egmond was also involved in the second, laying the ball off to Svitkova who let the ball run across her body before firing a fine left-footed strike off the inside of the post to put the hosts in the lead for the first time.
With the clock deep into injury time the Hammers looked set for a first league win since December, but they failed to clear the ball, allowing Mayling the opportunity to cross and Mace to grab a dramatic late point.
