Asked whether losing his prize on the final day had left any scars, Lewandowski told reporters in Poland: "It doesn't hurt anymore, but it did at first.

"Maybe because I wasn't completely satisfied with the way my team helped me. Immediately after the last game, I felt anger. I was disappointed with my team. That was the feeling I had."

Lewandowski did score twice in a breathtaking 5-4 comeback win in Leipzig on the penultimate weekend, but Auba edged the prize -- aided by two goals on the final day of the season against Werder Bremen.

Earlier this week, Lewandowski, who is preparing for Poland's World Cup qualifier against Romania, was voted the Bundesliga's best outfield player by his peers, but this was little consolation after losing his top scorer status to Aubameyang.
