Kumasi Asante Kotoko have officially parted ways with head coach Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum, bringing an abrupt end to his second stint with the Porcupine Warriors following a string of disappointing performances in the Ghana Premier League.
The decision, announced by the club today, comes in the wake of a three-match winless run that culminated in a 2-0 defeat to Nations FC on Matchday 28.
The result appears to have sealed the fate of the coach, who returned to the club in July 2023 with high expectations after guiding Kotoko to league triumph in the 2021/22 season.
In a statement confirming the development, the club said: “Asante Kotoko Sporting Club has this afternoon parted company with Head Coach Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum. This decision was reached following constructive discussions between both parties, with a shared understanding that it is in the best interest of the club at this time.”
The club expressed gratitude for Ogum’s efforts during his tenure and called for calm among its supporters. “We thank Coach Ogum for his dedication and service to the club, and we wish him the very best in his future endeavors. We urge our supporters to remain calm and continue to support the club during this transition. Further updates will be communicated in due course,” the statement concluded.
Kotoko currently trail league leaders Bibiani Gold Stars by six points, with only six matches remaining in the season. As the title race enters its final stretch, attention will now turn to who steps in to salvage the campaign and revive the team’s fading hopes of reclaiming the league title.
