The Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana has called on political parties to ensure their agents conduct themselves appropriately during the upcoming elections to maintain the integrity of the process.  

Dr. Bossman Asare, Deputy Chairman of the EC in charge of Corporate Services, made the appeal during his address at the Graphic National Development Series today in Accra.

He highlighted the vital role of party agents in safeguarding the transparency and credibility of the electoral process but noted that their lack of understanding of EC procedures sometimes leads to disruptions.  

"We want to also use this opportunity to entreat political parties and candidates to educate their agents to conduct themselves well at all the polling stations," Dr. Asare stated. "At times, the problems that come up are because the agents don’t understand our processes very well. So we expect that the parties will also educate them."  

Dr. Asare reaffirmed the EC’s impartiality, emphasising that its primary goal is to deliver a peaceful, transparent, credible, and inclusive election. 

"The Commission does not have any interest in the elections except to ensure that the processes leading to the elections of a president and parliamentarians are peaceful and reflect the will of the Ghanaian people," he said.  

He encouraged all registered voters to exercise their franchise on December 7, reiterating the EC’s commitment to supporting voters in casting their ballots without hindrance.  

Dr. Asare also expressed confidence in the collaboration between the EC and security agencies under the Election Security Task Force to maintain order at polling stations and collation centres. 

"We are working in concert with security agencies to ensure that Ghanaians vote in peace, choosing the parliamentarians and the president they want," he concluded. 

The EC has pledged to deliver elections that uphold Ghana's democratic values and urged all stakeholders, particularly party agents, to prioritise the nation’s collective interest over partisan gains.
