Stop attributing motives to EC, OSP petitions — Prof. Beyuo

Member of Parliament for Lambussie, Prof. Titus Beyuo, has cautioned the public against attributing political motives to the 10 separate petitions submitted to the Presidency seeking the removal of Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng and Electoral Commission Chairperson Jean Mensa.

Speaking on Channel One TV’s Breakfast Daily on Tuesday, December 2, Prof. Beyuo described as “unfortunate” the growing claims that the petitions were engineered from within the Jubilee House. He insisted that such allegations were baseless and risked undermining confidence in the country’s accountability processes.

According to him, no individual or group should “impugn motives or spread wild rumours” when the constitutional procedure for addressing petitions is already in motion.

“These people are not guilty yet; there has not been any establishment of a prima facie case against any of them,” he stressed, urging the public to refrain from political speculation.

Prof. Beyuo further maintained that President John Mahama has no personal interest in targeting any of the officeholders involved.

“I am pretty sure His Excellency has no personal vendetta against them, and he will not get himself directly involved,” he said, noting that any determination must be guided by law.

His remarks follow confirmation that the Office of the President has received 10 petitions from private citizens calling for the removal of Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng, Jean Mensa, and her two deputies. The petitions, sources say, allege misconduct, with Mr Agyebeng specifically accused of incompetence and abuse of office.

All petitions have since been forwarded to the Chief Justice, Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie, who is expected to determine whether a prima facie case exists to warrant further action.
