Airtel Ghana has handed over various prizes to two beneficiaries of their corporate social responsibility initiatives, Touching Lives. The two, Rebecca Kwapong and Emmanuel Martey, are both residences of Asesewa in the Manyo Krobo District of the Eastern Region. Rebecca Kwapong received among others a refrigerator, gas cooker, utensils and other items to help her set up a catering outfit. She also received GHC5,000 educational scholarship for her siblings following the passing away of her parents. Emmanuel Martey on the other hand received shoe-making equipment to help him expand his business.
Corporate Relations Manager of Airtel Ghana, Kwame Gyan, who presented the items to the pair said Airtel Ghana in settling on corporate social responsibility beneficiaries focuses on offering support that are sustainable. "In the case of Rebecca, we found that she has younger siblings who depend on her entirely following the sad passing of their parents. What we have done is to help pay for the fees of the siblings whiles offering Rebecca an opportunity to make a living to support the family going forward", Kwame Gyan said. He added that Airtel Ghana takes the concept of CSR very personal because "we believe that if we are to become the most loved brand, we need to give a thought to the generality of the people around us", he added. Kwame Gyan says Airtel is delivering on its promise and will continue with the presentations to persons it committed to support as part of the 2012 Airtel Touching Lives.
Ms. Kwapong expressed her appreciation to Airtel Ghana saying the presentations will help in making the future of her siblings and hers better than it currently is. Mr. Martey on his part said the equipment will help expand his work and help him do more in his leatherwork career. He called on Airtel Ghana to do even more to help bring smiles to the faces of others like him.
