France affirmed Tuesday that it supported additional sanctions against the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) after its second nuclear test and missile fire, local sources said.
"We want a strong reaction from the (UN) Security Council," said Foreign Ministry spokesman Frederic Desagneaux. According to Desagneaux, France also condemned DPRK's missile tests on Tuesday morning, and ask the country "to refrain from further provocation and any act likely to increase tension in the area."
"We want that additional sanctions against North Korea to be decided and let us continue dialogue with members of the council on the reaction to come. We are open to all possibilities on strengthening and widening the sanctions." Desagneaux said, noting that the Security Council had "unanimously" decide to work on a new resolution.
Defying the international condemnation, the DPRK Tuesday fired two more short-range missiles, after a nuclear test on Monday.
